Modern Drama

While trying to avoid a monotonous aesthetic, three main cabinet elements were mashed together in a contemporary and sleek composition. This client wanted something different than the average kitchen, and we were able to produce a design that suited her minimalist lifestyle and adventurous use of colour. High gloss HDF cabinets and steel laminate create a beautiful juxtaposition to the dark Cherry charcoal slab doors. The Island displays 119” of Cambria’s Torquay quartz, with large waterfall edge, housing four stools and 2” thick steel foot rail. The colour of the famous Wolf rangetop knobs was reiterated by the back-painted glass backsplash to create a fun and luxurious backdrop for the modern millwork. The beverage station counter cabinet houses various small appliances, however Waterloo has a bylaw against covered outlets, so we installed an automated outlet shut-off. We also integrated both dishwashers with wood panels, and outfitted this kitchen with everything from two-tier cutlery and peg drawer inserts, to spice pantry pullouts and foot pedal recycle centers. This kitchen proves that function and fashion can live harmoniously. For this kitchen, Benjamin won the Gold award for Large Kitchen at the Elite Design Awards, a North American design competition in 2014 (right and below)
